VFD Control Panel Features

Industrial VFD

The control panel includes a high-performance industrial VFD from Danfoss (Vacon NXP Series). The Drives are quoted normal duty / variable torque. If the application is a heavy duty / constant torque, the drive will need to be up sized to ensure sufficient power is available.

The VFD is suitable for a wide range of applications including pumps, compressors, mixers and conveyors.

Enclosure

The enclosure protection rating is Type 3R - "Rain proof and ice / sleet proof – indoors  / outdoors" and is intended for general purpose outdoor use. The primary protection against falling rain.

The rating does not cover 'wash-down', meaning you should not use a direction-hose towards the enclosure.

Operating Temperature

The control panels are designed to operate within an ambient temperature range of -10C to 40C. The panel includes a thermostat to control fans for cooling and heating pads for warming.

Operators

The VFD panel includes operators for direct-process control. Run status indicators are also included for power and VFD status.

A HMI (LCD and keypad) is used for real-time monitoring including speed and amps. The keypad is used to make parameter changes.

Safety

Built to UL 508A standards.

Electrical Protection

Rental units include a surge protection device (SPD) to protect the equipment from transient voltages typically associated with lightning strikes or inrush from transformers.

Rental Features

The rental units have been prepared to make the rental experience as easy as possible.

Maneuvering Equipment

The small rental units (< 20 HP / FR4) have been welded to a portable dolly. The larger units have been mounted to a steel-tubed frame. The frame allows forklifts to move the equipment securely. The frame is crisscrossed providing forklift access from either side. This makes loading and unloading from freight vehicles easier.

Rental Process

Confirm VFD Requirements

To identify the appropriate VFD size, we need confirmation on the following: input voltage, phase, application, any communication or control logic customization, motor RPM, full load amps.

If the motor name plate is available please submit this as part of the requirements gathering process.

Start Date and Duration

During the initial quote development, we request the start date and estimated rental duration.

We request a minimum of 2 days visibility of a VFD rental in order to provide sufficient time to prepare and test the for drives for rent.

VFD Configuration

Every rental VFD is prepared and tested for the intended operational use case.

The VFD is programmed to the customer supplied motor name plate data. Any custom modifications are also implemented at this stage.

QA Check - Multi-point Inspection

Once the VFD is prepared, a QA check is performed which tests the electrical wiring, nut torque and applied motor load.

A copy of the inspection report is included with the drive rental.

Pickup / Drop-off

VFD rentals are quoted EX-works, so the the customer is responsible for pickup and drop-off.

To assist with delivery, SAI issues weights and dimensions of the rental units and confirm the date the drive is ready for collection.

Collection should be between 8.00 am to 4.30 pm CDT, Monday to Friday.

Rental Conditions

Transport

During transport the VFD rentals need to be protected from driving rain. They must either ship within a boxed truck or be tarped.

Liability

Equipment liability and responsibility transfers to the renter as soon as the equipment is loaded onto the freight vehicle and returned following an approved return inspection.

SAI will perform this inspection within 24hrs of the return.

We advise all renters to confirm they have sufficient equipment insurance to cover the full replacement cost of the VFD control panel. The estimated replacement cost is listed on the VFD rental quote.

If the unit is damaged, SAI will make an assessment of the damage and if repairable will proceed to do so. The rental remains open until such time as the rental repair is complete.
